Celebrating the Week of the Young Child: A Message of Gratitude and Hope
Dear Families, Children, and Early Childhood Educators,
As we welcome the Week of the Young Child (April 11-17, 2026) we are reminded of the deep importance of this special celebration. Sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), this week is more than a recognition. It is an invitation to honor childhood, celebrate those who nurture it, and renew our shared commitment to the well-being of young children and their families.
The early years are the foundation for all that follows. They are the years in which curiosity is awakened, confidence begins to grow, relationships are formed, and a lifelong love of learning takes root. This week calls us to pause and reflect on just how important these early experiences are – and on our collective responsibility to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
To families, thank you for the love, resilience, and encouragement you bring to your children each day. Your support provides the foundation from which they grow, learn, and flourish. Your role is powerful, and your impact reaches farther than words can express.
To children, we celebrate you with joy. We celebrate your wonder, imagination, creativity, and boundless potential. You bring light to our classrooms and hope to our communities. You remind us every day of the beauty of discovery and the promise of the future.
And to early childhood educators, we offer our deepest gratitude and admiration. Your work is essential, compassionate, and transformative. Through your patience, knowledge, and dedication, you nurture not only young minds, but also confidence, belonging, and possibility. You are helping shape future leaders, caregivers, thinkers, and community members – one child, one moment, and one caring interaction at a time.
The Week of the Young Child also reminds us that supporting young children is a shared responsibility. It calls on all of us to continue building communities and systems that value childhood, strengthen families, and expand access to high-quality, affordable early care and education. It invites us to lead with hope, and create opportunities that allow every child to be seen, supported, and inspired.
So as we celebrate this special week, let us do so with gratitude, purpose, and optimism. Let us honor the journey of childhood, celebrate the unique gifts of every child, and recognize the families and educators whose love and dedication make such a lasting difference.
