Mindfulness Meditation Class
for Campus Early Education Teachers
Mindfulness offers a practical and invaluable tool for our work with young children and their parents. Mindfulness wakes us up to what we are actually experiencing in the present moment: what we’re thinking, feeling, and perceiving with all of our senses. With this awareness we also notice our relationship to our experience as it’s happening: are we accepting and opening to it? Or are we judging, resisting or trying the change our experience? And then, given our reaction, discovering the wisest and kindest way to respond in the present moment.
In our sessions we will learn the basic principles and method of Insight or Vipassana Meditation, which cultivates mindfulness, and apply these methods and principles to our own self care, and to the challenges and delights in our work and personal lives. Each class will consist of instruction, practice, discussion, and application to daily experiences. Instruction will also be given for Metta, the Loving Kindness Meditation, which cultivates compassion and our understanding of interdependence. Each session will include instruction for daily formal and informal ”ownwork” practices.
