Employee Child Care Grant
for Faculty, Academic and Classified Employees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
This private fund provides one-time financial support to permanent full-time UW-Madison employees who need assistance for child care with the intention of supporting, retention, campus climate and emergency assistance.
Priority is given to employees:
1. with lower incomes and higher child care expenses, especially those with infants, and/or
2. in cases where discretionary one time funding will provide immediate assistance in dealing
with an unexpected event that affects the family's ability to cover child care costs.
Funding for the UW employee child care grants is made possible by the generous contributions from the UW Women‘s Philanthropy Council, WSEU and individual donations.
The Women ‘s Philanthropy Council, chaired by Nancy Borghesi, is responsible for funding the popular Kids Kare Program, that provides reduced fees for sick and back-up care, a program that has been in existence since 2005 and has helped hundreds of campus families with short term child care solutions. In 2013, the group provided limited additional funding to assist faculty and academic staff with high cost infant care.
Employees should refer to the application for eligibility
guidelines. Applications are accepted throughout
the year. Grants are always awarded based on fund availability and family need.
Typically 4-6 awards are granted each year with awards averaging $500.
